    My take is that it is a ancient greek river god trying to do the naughty with a dryad…makes as much sense as Ms. Popes’ explanation anyway…

    Ah, afarensis, that theory doesn’t explain why it cures spider bites! Whereas if it’s “God’s Water” then that explains everything perfectly! Everything, I tell you!
