Fad or not, I just placed my first ad to find a “social networking expert” for one of my customers. I wouldn’t recommend going into the job market with Social Media as the only skill one has, but I also wouldn’t go into the web designer / tech field without being very well versed in the new, emerging technologies.
Uch, what a dreadful piece of advertising hype. First, set up a strawman argument, then defeat that strawman using half-truths and made-up statistics. I’ve already commented on how awful it is in the comments section here:

Social media is certainly not a fad, but do we really need more self-serving, self-promoting hype like this clouding our view of what’s really going on? If the book this advertises is as inaccurate as the video…
