I hear lots of talk about getting off oil and going to renewable energy. Did I miss the memo about non-fuels (plastics, synthetic fibers, etc.) being made from wind power or solar panels?

IIRC, petrochemicals are all more valuable per pound than any fuel a refinery produces.
